1ST YEAR PLAYING ON PARTY POKER https://youtu.be/_0YnksS_x5Y For the majority of my poker career I played on Pokerstars, I would not recommend ANYONE to play on this site. They have a lot of flaws in their software. They charge a lot in rake and don't give much in rake back at all, but that is not the main issue with Pokerstars. They have a software that allows people to mine your HH's, this allows people to generate massive samples on your game before you have ever even played them. I have seen some huds that will pretty much tell you the exact hand value when you bet a certain size, so unless you are a gto player you will really be exploited playing against a lot of the regs (the cheating one) on Pokerstars. PartyPoker does not have that issue.
I love PartyPoker and the opportunity they have given us to make 40-60% rake back which is just not common in poker anymore and also the software security is setup in a way that people cannot mine our hands so people cannot know anything about us unless they have played us which is in theory an equal playing field which is what poker should be played on. It also keeps the observation of the game alive and allows people to play real poker online, unlike pretty much all other card rooms.

Please enjoy this video of my first year on PartyPoker which I started playing on 1 month after my Son Atlas was born.

LAPT DAY 1

I had a great day 1. Not only did I make it to day 2, such a rare thing for me in live tournaments, but I had one of the funnest days I ever had playing live poker in my life.
I realized today that when it comes to playing live poker a major difference to my online game is that when it comes to the outcome of the tournament, I actually care about winning in live poker.
I hear you saying to yourselves:
 'Well doesn't he always?'
The answer would actually be:
'No, not always. '
I obviously do want to have winning sessions with every one I play, that is the aim of the game. Make the most ev+ plays to make the most profit. I just have been grinding online for so long now and have been a successful online player from the beginning really. (minus the teething sessions I had at my local poker club....... BIG UP MY 'WESTERN' PEOPLE)

Whenever I play a session online, I tend to 'expect' to have a winning day. I tend to put in long sessions when I play online so it is not uncommon for me to have winning days, and even the ones that are not, they have a similar effect to me where I just call it a day in the office and go to sleep like a normal job.

I have got to the stage that I feel I need some new challenges and playing live just really hits that spot for me. I have this separate passion for MTTs, both online and live, although I will keep it as a hobby and not as a grind. I still get the pre game excitement, I still get the adrenaline when I am bluffing someone for the first time, my heart pumps and I breathe a sigh of relief when they fold. It just really gives me a different type of satisfaction than what my HU grind gives me.

I really like having it as a hobby but a hobby I also make money in but due to the high variance and the time consumption of it, I still have my 'hu grind' to give me my bread and butter money.
One of The main aspects I like about live MTTs is seeing my opponents face to face and really feeling them out. It helps my online game loads as when I play I can visualize the weak players I face in the live events because in reality these are the people at the other end of the screen. I didn't have too many big hands, I literally have just been playing abcdefg poker, haven't had to bring in the hijklmnop poker yet. I had a couple of spots where I felt I read my opponents bad, however luckily they were for smallish pots, and as ever whenever I make a mistake I always smile because it means I taught myself something, because I always learn from any mistake I make.

Hand of the day:
Effective stack =50k, blinds 600/1200
UTG + 2 on new table raises to 3,700.
**Reads on UTG +2: had played 3/8 hands I had on him. One being UTG + 1 where he got 3bet and snap folded, he talked a lot in hands, seemed like he was super recreational but enjoys raising when he plays, but not enough of an ego to care when someone plays back, also doesn't seem like 4bet bluff would ever be an option for him to an unknown player.
This opponent done the exact same 3,700 he just made UTG +2 as he did UTG + 1.
It folds around and gets flatted by the button.
**Reads on button: Looked very bullish in his persona, had the biggest stack at the table and just seemed very chilled out, did not seem to mind throwing chips around.  (These were very generalized reads based on initial feel for the player)
SB folds and I wake up in the BB with the monster K9o.
My perceived reads on myself: New to the table, first hand I woke up with AQ and got shoved on by a short stack, I commented on how I had been waiting for ages for a hand (it was the first hand playing with these guys, *had to Hollywood I was tight*) seemed to have a presence just because of my accent at the table and because I was friendly to the dealer when I arrived at the table, he had dealt to me earlier (they don't know this is how I know him,) and feel people were 'weary' of me.
I decide this is a good spot to put in an aggressive 3bet to 8,500 knowing that it can change the dynamic of the entire game and either way I would be at the center of the dynamic change and will exploit my opponents perceptions of me if the squeeze goes wrong. This meaning that I will adjust better than them to the dramatic change from there perception of me to how I am actually playing.
The UT2 + 2 folds, button throws the chips in as if they were nothing to him pretty much telling me he has a mediocre hand, range I put him on: Some suited connectors even down to 56s, some off suit connectors down to 910o, Ace x 'x' being smaller than J, KQ, KJ, Q10, QJ, Q9s, J9s etc and all PPs up to 88, so a pretty wide range for a 3bet pot. I feel he would fold unconnected hands and bad kicker hands, so there is still only around 25ish% of hands in this range but my hand being k9 actually is ahead a lot of his as the 25% lacks the top value hands IMO and has a much better long term expectancy than his range does being I am the aggressor even after he flats.

The flop comes k 7 4 rainbow. I obviously go from having a total bluff to having the absolute nuts in my eyes.
Now I have the nuts, I am trying to think of how I can get his chips in the middle. I decided to bet 8.5k being around 2/5 of the pot. (too tired to do the maths lol)
He takes very little time to make it 20k, as if he didn't want to show any signs of weakness, like a bully would normally do with air. I was VERY confident I had the best hand and with only 10k behind I was left with the decision do I want to flat and keep his range as wide as possible which is highly ev+ (short term) or do I want to shove which would mean him folding all his trash.
I decided to go for option two and opponent snap folded.
The reason I went for option number two was really because I felt it was more +ev (long run) to take the pot there and try make sure my hand does not go to show down. It is a stage of the tournament where I really do not want hands to go to show down and spesh if my preflop range is wide, I want my perceived range to always be narrower than it is when I am playing loose and wider than it is when I am playing tight. I also felt my opponent would just give up on the bluff giving he has no fold equity any more so I wasn't guaranteed the rest of the chips and might sacrifice getting sucked out on when I am perfectly happy with the size of the pot as it is. Also the odd time he has a7s 45s 67 78 some pps 108s and is forced to call the last 10k but will check down if I just call. My decision here was based on putting all of those factors into consideration, but mainly due to the importance of my entire table image. I liked the fact that I was new to the table and was already standing up to 'the bully.' It's like standing up to the bully in school on the first day, the others will gain some more respect for you, but may loose respect for future raises if I show such a weak pre flop hand. This is definately not a time I want them to see I am raising light, avoiding non show downs at all costs unless makes my image look good.

Chip stack at the end of the Day 1: 86,500 Blinds 800/1600

On a last note, unlucky to my boy Serkules who came with me to play the tournament. He had a very aggressive hand where he 3bet 33 pre and got flatted by 2 opponents, one of his opponents (super lag) lead a flop of A 2 4. Serkules re raised folding out the other opponent. He got flatted by the initial flop better. The turn came 5 (Bink), the player check raised Serkules leaving Serkules with 5k behind in an already 55k pot, Serkules just flatted to make sure his opponent put in the remainder of his chips. River 2 and the 5k goes in. His Lag opponent managed to have 63o. Lol. Unlucky bro but I have to laugh a little bit at how much of a ridiculous way this is to go out. Very unlucky but obviously the poker gods are saving the run good for the high roller event. Hehehe. Good game bro.

Oh yeah and thanks for the $1,000 last longer bet!!!

Finally, a cool blog post which was done today on me on the Pokerstars Blog page due to the fact that I used 'FPPs' to buy into the event. The blogger, Alex, only spoke to me for a few minutes to gather this information but was happy that he done the post about me, was really nice to see myself on the Pokerstars website.

Grinding in Vancouver

As anyone following knows I have been on a challenge to make 200k VPPs in 30days. I am now on day 7 of the challenge and I have made 60k VPPs. I am really happy with how much work and hours I have put into this challenge, it is really helping me as a person knowing I can still dedicate myself to hard work even in my lazy adult life :). I have put in some smaller sessions due to my girlfriend being in town but on Sunday with the large action I am comfortable I will excel further in the challenge.

I have been playing some of my session at my good friend Dunc13's apartment, it is the most chilled out place to grind, he has a sick set up and felt good to play at a desk for a change when zoning in on some of the toughest opponents in my poker career.

I have also managed to reach the top 5 in profit for the year, this is for anyone playing sit and go poker in the world so it's a very big achievement. I am not going to get too excited because I; firstly want higher than top 5 and secondly there's no point in bragging at a good ranking if I am not going to maintain it, so I will see how the next few months ago before bragging about being top 5.

I have been lazy at updating the progress of the challenge due to how busy I have been but I will update the 2+2 and maybe another video blog tonight and tomorrow.

London/Xmas/New year/My Bday :D

Yoyoyo. What is going on in the world of poker? I feel a little distant at the moment.
I am back on the road again after spending a messy Christmas over in my home City of London. I am so excited to be getting back out but also going to miss my London people. You guys are my world and I will always be representing London wherever I go. I am currently in Vancouver after my quick stop of in Oregon. I am just getting settled in this little studio apartment in the Downtown area. I am so fortunate to have moved a few blocks away from a friend I made in Costa Rica, Duncan and his girlfriend Ellen. I have had big internet problems and they have helped me out so much, I am very grateful guys. They also introduced me to a couple of 9man grinders which is well cool to see still going on after all this time. GL Aaron and David.

Xmas
I won't go into full detail about the Christmas because to be honest I don't remember a whole lot of it given how intoxicated I was over the time. I have had some massive swings both in my favor and against, they were really enjoyable grind sessions but felt like I had developed a few leaks in some of the games due to mainly reg warring and having some fun with the game, to be fair it was the end of a sick year and I am allowed to have some fun :).

New years
I have had a lot of time to think about my life, career, choices to be made in the beginning of the new year and seen as it is the new year it is time for those deadly new years resolution which we all make but no one sticks too.

1) Poker to be my main focus in 2012. I spent a lot of time wasted partying and bullshitting in 2011, I enjoyed every minute of it but I think the tone I want to set for 2012 is 'hard work.'
2) Get SuperNova elite by 2013.
3) Get more involved in social media. I have been speaking quite a bit to Hokiegreg, someone I have looked up to in the heads up world since the day I learned how to raise my button. He has opened my eyes a little in what I need to be doing. Check out his blog here: www.hokiegreg.com
4) Have my video blog up and running by the end of Jan, this will be a You Tube page and will go week to week with me and what I am up to.
5) Play more live events and this years world series. I will be selling action when the schedule comes out, if you are interested in buying some action I will have a post on here explaining all my mark ups etc.
6) Network more and more. I am always interested in networking with the games best and last year I certainly did that, this year I want to do it a bit more organized and have more of a reason than just 'grind' when meeting up with people. Although I do love those grind houses and will be down for a couple trips of just grinding :D.
7) Put a lot of work into personal relationships in my life. I find it hard to make time for everyone because of how busy it can get living the poker players lifestyle but now I am here with some time to myself it really allows me to see what's important before money and success and that's family and your relationships.
8) Make a lot of money :) :) :)
Ok so I lumped in my Original new year goals in with a couple of new ones I made sense.

My Bday:
It's not like me to celebrate my birthday but this year is the first year I felt I had something worth celebrating.
I had the best year of my life being 22 so wanted to have a big night where the people I got pure love for could get together and get really messy together. It was also a bit of a leaving party as I am not going to be back in the UK for a while now and wanted to say good bye in style :). I would just like to give a big thanks to everyone who turned up, the night was amazing. Sorry about the stupid door people who are really just pissed of with the world.

Last note, GL to the newest member of the HUSnG crew from London Donk King1 out in Australia with his chick. I wish you the best on your heads up career, if you do what I think your capable of doing I think you will go far in the hyper turbo world. I would like to give you this one piece of advice. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon but no ones pace is ever the same but everyone ends up in the same place as long as you finish the race. Peace.

Ok so it's coming to the end of the year and the grind has been amazing. Anyways I played a couple of big hands yesterday and wanted to share two of them with you.

The first one was at the time the biggest pot I had ever played in my life and in the moment I was a lil tipsy but very zoned in on the session.

Ok so my thoughts on the hand:
I raised pre flop and a player I haven't played much with flats and everyone else folds. At this point I do know he has been a small looser over a decent sample and I know he likes to play many pots and can have a wide range when he flats pre-flop.
Ok so this hand all started to get fancy when I miss clicked my cbet on the flop and bet 50 into a pot of $385. My opponent then decides to raise this. My thoughts on his raise were basic and felt that my opponent either had a massive hand, draw type hand or air when he done this. I felt that it was my cbet which induced this raise so I was leaning more towards the air range in my head, I knew I didn't look strong and could really have given up this pot here. I decided to go with my thoughts that my opponent could have air and decided to 3bet my opponent to define his range more. Once my opponent flats, it is really hard to see what my opponent could have. I in my head narrowed his range down to some str8 draws, flush draws, qx, some 10x but feel a lot of opponents would flat 10x to the cbet or if decided to take this aggressive line with 10x he would fold to the 3bet given I would likely have him beat or a big draw in my range, I do feel most opponents would give up with 10x bar A10, K10. I don't think my opponent would ever flat a set or 2 pair on this board, with this action, this deep. (Note most of my thought process is done on the flop)
I then bet half pot on the turn. My opponent again decides to flat, and pretty quickly at that. I feel I am now myself repping a very polarized range, he can have some 9xs and kj is his range which now beat my ace high, I feel a lot of KJ combos and J8 combos (gut shot) on the flop would flat the 50 cbet instead of re raising so I am actually comfortable thinking he didn't have a made straight yet but he definitely could have some 9x's which I plan on him folding on the river.
When the river falls like this everything changes. The second pair, one of the least likely hands my opponent could be holding, pairs. I feel it is a bad card for me to bet but I feel as I am representing such a polarized range, I need to be betting any river here with a merged range of nuts, air and show down hands. I don't like check calling as I feel I would be more likely to be check calling a Q and would rather bet to fold out a bunch of hands that beat me and I guess for meta game purposes I preferred betting. I really am trying to persuade my opponent I have a nut hand. I bet and my opponent goes all in, one of the least things I expected him to do, in fact I was so shocked I almost snap folded. As I am clearly not a normal in the head, I started to go over each street and using my time bank to its full use, I started thinking about all the hands he could take this line with and summed up that my opponent was more likely to have air more times than he had a straight or a 10, which would have been second pair on the flop. Also, for him to go all in and not to flat call he is now representing an even thinner range because even 10s would now flat call and even straights might flat call given, I am so polarized. Both hands that he was trying to represent wouldn't have played the flop the way he did but even if he did have a hand he was trying to represent he would be more likely to flat call given the size of the pot and again as I previously said, the fact that I am polarized makes little sense for my opponent to ship all in with anything but the nuts for value here and given he flatted the flop 3bet it is hard for my opponent to have a house, the only hand my opponent really does rep is 10 9 and even that's not so much in his range so we are now left with total air, flush draws and nuts, but flush draws being the biggest part of his range given the way every street was played. So, I thought, thought, thought and called, he indeed had the flush draw, we proudly take the pot in and on to the next one.

A few minutes later I played in the new biggest pot of my entire life. Not so interesting but I will post it for you to see anyways. :)

If I see anyone out that has read my blog please don't be shy to let me know you have read it, I am interested who is actually reading this thing. I would like to thank all of you who read this regularly and hope you all have a great Xmas.

Living the dream

We all make our deposits on to poker sites with one shared vision in common. To one day be living the dream of being a high stakes baller.

Ok so I don't consider myself a baller but I did get to taste the lifestyle of it and through the experience I came out a changed man. My personality hasn't altered too much, but I feel I am a more confident, mature and comfortable person.

I am back in England and having a look over pics/vids of my entire year and it's travels. I am realizing how much more to life there is, and how being a professional poker player allows me to do things I wouldn't have even dreamed about doing. I have been around some of the greatest minds in Poker, surfed in some of the sickest waves in the world (well attempted to), got massages by the best (thanks for paying Serk), chilled on amazing beaches, saw a monkey in the wild (FINALLY), followed the greatest weather, saw some of the most amazing sites the world has to offer, stayed in apartments that just two years ago I wouldn't dream I would ever see the inside of, got table service in exclusive clubs, ran up insane bills at pool parties in Vegas, done graffiti on Venice beach, met the nicest people, avoided the fakes, dodged the gold diggers and managed to form some strong relationships based on trust. This is just few of the many memories I took from the year and already I feel it paints the picture clear for the positive movement my peers and myself created.

A lot of this life style can be related back to the beginning of my poker experience. Coming into the game thinking I knew it all and soon realized I am just a fish in this big world. Not a big fish obviously as I find it's easily justified when your making money of fish to spend a little back into enjoying the game. I believe everyone has to be a fish to become a shark, learning and evolving is what will make that transition. At the end of the day a shark is just a big, intelligent fish!

So what have I taken a way from this trip?

I have learned how much we can take everything we learned in the complex game of poker into the more complicated game of life. Money in the bank isn't the way to judge achievements, we can't base how clever someone is by how much money they have or how balling they can be. In many situations it can give us a good indication of a person, but the same as in poker, every decision in life matters. Even the decisions so small we don't think will ever effect the long run. As in poker we can determine a persons skill level in life by asking some questions:
  • Do they wake up with an optimistic approach to a day/situation?
  • Do they attempt it once, fail and give up? or do they pick them self up learn and try again, again and yep, again?
  • Do they make incorrect decisions/statements/answers and admit they are incorrect, and then adapt quickly to a more optimal way?
  • Will they accept that something they have been doing for a long period of time might be incorrect and accept that changing them self might be the only way they can achieve happiness?
  • Do they accept that someone in a higher position is always correct? or do they question it, challenge it and come up with their own answers?
  • Do they have a competitive side to them? How much of that side is ego? how much of it is will to succeed?
  • Do they put their heart into things? or just act like they do but really don't know what putting their heart into something means?
  • Do they complain about things that they couldn't do anything to prevent from happening?
  • Do they complain about things in general?
  • Do they dwell on the past but forget that their future is the only thing they have control over?
  • Does a hurdle stop them chasing what they want?
  • Do they let an opportunity go by over and over?
  • Do they appreciate the good times because they learned from the bad times?
  • Do they hate on someone else that has what they want? Or do they choose to support and learn from that person recognizing being against them isn't going to get them far?
I went a bit deep on some of those questions but I feel like they are good questions I have asked my self many times in developing as a poker player. Now the more mature I am becoming, the more and more I am asking myself these questions in order to better myself as human even if sometimes I see my self answering these questions and don't like the answers I have for them.

Upswing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWWP4xtxXXE&ob=av2e
I won't go into too much details about upswings, because it's really the same stuff as I went through in the previous post about the downswing just a bunch of variance boring stuff. My bankroll is booming and flying again, it feels good, I feel like every session is being played in the zone, I have had some good sessions in $1ks and ran really good in some 25/50  $1k cap games, running around $9k above ev. I have had some good opponents play me in the last month and had some good action with fish too, it has been a roller costar few months but I am really happy with the place I am now and where my roll is at right now.

So I worked on my game a lot when I was in Cali last at the beginning of Oct. I think that time away from poker was a good decision when I was faced with a long downswing. I would advise anyone to take time out when they think their game needs some reflecting on. It is also important to remember to be putting in high volume sessions which some times you forget to do when not running so good.
So I will show you my all in ev from the time I came back from California - now.

We also have had Jyg4me staying with us, and even though I keep loosing the flip for the bed it's been good having him back on board over my grind trip. Talking of flipping I have run 60 buyins under ev to Serkules flipping $200 dices whilst waiting for drinks and food. FML I want to prove Serk is human to people and will prove it before I die, but maybe flipping lower stakes :). Also we hit up the Snoop Dogg party the other day, was pretty sick night.

I am going to be going back to America to chill with a good friend of mine for a couple days away from poker and to wind down of this trip before going back to London where I will spend Christmas. It's been a fun trip, I will definitely continue to travel in one way or another. I will see how my options unfold.

On a last note I wanna give a shout out to any one who knew my boy Ian. I hope all you guys are thinking about the good times. We had so many :D.
